The Chemistry Department is a multidisciplinary department comprised of researchers from physical chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, plant production, soil science and agricultural chemistry, food chemistry and didactics of experimental science. The department was created in 1991, the year in which the University of Lleida was created, the main core of the professor came from the Department of Plant Production of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and other professors from the School of Teaching staff of EGB, which belonged to the UAB.

Currently, it is made up of 27 professors and researchers, 4 administratives and technician staff, 6 postdoctoral researchers and 9 doctoral students.

The Department of Chemistry is responsible for organizing and developing teaching subjects in the area of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Instrumental Analysis, both Degrees and Masters.


The professors from the department teach in 15 bachelor’s degrees and 8 master’s degrees. The predoctoral staff in formation develop their PhD thesis works in the frame of the doctorates programs awarded with a mention towards the Excellency.


The Department has developed a long research activity since its origin. This activity has led to the recognition of several of its groups by the Generalitat of Catalonia. Currently, the Department participates in 5 research groups recognized by the Generalitat of Catalonia.

Services to companies

The Department collaborates in the Scientific and Technical Services of the University of Lleida. Some of its professors leads four services addressed to offer to agrifood, chemical and other related companies a range of services that include chemical analysis and collaborations in R+D+I activities.
